A Great Christmas Gift: Herbal Dream Pillows

Dream Pillows have been around for hundreds of years. People stuff pillows with herbs to help them relax, fall asleep, have peaceful or creative dreams.

Dream pillows last as long as they hold their scent and this depends on the herbs used. Children and adults love them. Tuck the dream pillow inside your pillowcase.
For a child, a dream pillow can help to provide security when going to a babysitter for the first time, riding in the car, having trouble sleeping or staying overnight in a different place. Try fabrics like animal print or dark navy blue with moons and stars.

To make: Use cotton or a natural fabric and wash first. Cut out a piece of cloth 5” by 12”, fold in half, with fabric inside out, sew 2 sides and leave end open, turn right side out. Add ½ cup herbal dream blend, fold over the end and sew closed. Use herbs that have not been sprayed with chemicals (organic).
Optional: for a softer pillow, place a very small amount of cotton batting in the bottom, add the herbs and place another small amount of cotton batting on top, sew shut.

Peaceful Slumber Blend: 1 part catnip, 1 part lemon balm, 1 part lavender flowers

Sweet Dreams Blend: 1 part chamomile flowers, 1 part lavender flowers, 1 part rose petals

    Tips: Peppermint

Do you know why restaurants offer peppermint candies after your meal?

Peppermint is one of the best herbs for indigestion, it helps to relax your stomach muscles. It is also a helpful aid for headaches. Next time you have a headache drink a cup of peppermint tea and lay down for 15 minutes.

Peppermint is also a great herb for tired feet. When you and your feet are tired from holiday shopping try putting a few drops of peppermint essential oil in warm water and soak your feet in it. It will help to refresh and revive you.
