In Part One of our Beauty Trends blog based on the Google Beauty Trends Report 2017 we covered Rising Trends. For Part Two we are exploring the top trending themes across international markets. For the specifics of this report, the beauty markets of the U.S., France, and Japan were looked at. The first theme we will look at is Masks, followed by Ingredients.

Masks

Face Masks topped many of user’s searches, rising steadily since 2010. Users are searching for masks to address a variety of concerns, with acne being the top concern globally.

In the US, the following were the top 5 concerns associated with mask searches:

  1. Acne
  2. Blackheads
  3. Oily skin
  4. Hydration
  5. Clear Skin

Different types of masks are searched for each concern.

Ingredients

Now lets take a look at the top trending ingredients. In the U.S. the following are the most searched for ingredients in regards to skin care:

  • Clay
  • Aloe vera
  • Charcoal
  • Gold
  • Cocoa butter
  • Baking soda
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Tea tree oil
  • Bentonite clay
  • Micellar
  • Essential oils
  • Mud
  • Argan oil
  • Turmeric
  • Egg
  • Rose hip oil
  • Bubble clay

Healing, scars, and detox are the top three concerns associated with the trending ingredients.

Looking at the trending themes of masks and ingredients, the top concerns are about healing and treating skin, particularly when it comes to acne. For consumers, ingredients matter when it comes to their skin care products, particular their masks.

Turmeric

As noted in our first blog post on skin care trends, Turmeric Mask was one of the top Sustained Risers in the U.S. and it pops up as a top trending ingredient. Turmeric contains curcumin and is known for its anti-inflammatory and healing properties. It has been used thousands of years to treat various skin diseases.

Here is a quick and easy mask containing turmeric that you can make at home:

Turmeric Glow Mask

1/8 teaspoon turmeric powder

1 teaspoon mashed banana

1 teaspoon ground flaxseed

Combine all three ingredients in a bowl and mix well. Apply evenly to face and leave on for 15-20 minutes. Wash off with warm water and a washcloth.

Enjoy the glow!
